Emotional Freedom

Adapted from Dr. Larry Hutton, author of Internal Affairs

John 16:33 NKJV

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.  In the world you w ill have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

Lesson:  “I have overcome the world” – this means all that is in the world including sickness, disease, stress, hurtful people, etc.  Overcome means already beaten, conquered, and powerless.  The only w ay these things can get to us is if we give them power.  W e w ill still have opportunities for tribulation on a daily basis – but it is our choice whether w e give it “power” over us or not.

John 14:27 NKJV

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Isaiah 26:3 NKJV

You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

Lesson:  When you keep your mind focused on God and not your problems and put your trust in Him – His peace will be with you because you are getting out of the way so He can help you through the difficult situation.

Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.  Against such there is no law.

Lesson:  Joy also means delight, happiness, and pleasure.  Peace also means freedom from strife, trouble conflict, and friction.  The first three fruits of the Spirit are ones that grant us emotional freedom.

Isaiah 53:3-5 NKJV

He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.  And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.  Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God and afflicted.  But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

Lesson:  When we think of Jesus on the cross, we associate it with the forgiveness of our sins and freedom from our sicknesses.  He bore our griefs and sorrows – these are emotions!  This gift that we received also includes emotional healing and freedom.

Mathew 8:17 NKJV

That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sickness.”

Philippians 4:8-9 NKJV

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praise worthy – meditate on these things.  The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Lesson:  Think of all of the good that has happened to you and around you.  Give thanks to God for all of those things.  Do not dwell on the negative, it will only amplify it and by dwelling on it you are giving it power over you.

Corinthians 13:11 NKJV

Finally, brethren, farewell.  Become complete.  Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

Lesson:  If we not in peace, we must be troubled in some fashion – stressed, worried, upset, angry, etc. If we are letting these feelings consume us, it is because we are trying to do things on our own without God.  By doing this, we are putting ourselves on the throne of our life and basically saying we know better than God.  When we do this, God is unable to help us because we are full of pride.

Romans 8:6 NKJV

For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Peter 5:6-7 NKJV

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all of your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Lesson:  Humble is defined as meekness or modesty in behavior, attitude, or spirit; not arrogant or prideful, showing submissive respect.  If we are humble, we lift our cares up to God and he will act on our behalf.

Philippians 4:6 NKJV

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

Lesson:  This is telling us not to worry.  God does not want us to worry about anything, but in everything give thanks and praise to God.  This does not say fill your prayers with complaints, “Why is this happening to me, why don’t you do something Lord…” For example: if you feel the stress and worries of your financial situation coming upon you – rather than let the feelings consume you, say “I thank you Heavenly Father for being my provider, you provide me with all of the things I need mentally, physically, and financially.  My cup runneth over.  I thank you and give you praise!”

Romans 14:23 NKJV

But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith, for whatever is not from faith is sin.

Lesson:  Worry focuses on the unknown and worry is not of faith – so it must be of sin.

Prayer of Transformation

by Dr. Jim Richards of Impact Ministries

Heavenly Father, search my heart and discover the origin of this (thought or feeling) of ___________________. Go to the very root of my being and resolve this origin in order to bring every aspect of my spirit, soul, and body into harmony with Y our truth and my true identity in Messiah.

Search through every generation, every cellular memory, every action, and every expression of this (thought or feeling) of ______________________.

Heal me completely according to the finished work of Jesus until Y our life, light, love, truth, righteousness, peace, and joy empower me to completely forgive myself for every inappropriate expression, distorted perception, and destructive behavior, and forgive every person, place, or circumstance that has contributed to this (thought or feeling) of ______________________.

I choose to express my love for myself and my right as a child of God by allowing every mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical dis-ease and inappropriate behavior based on this root problem recorded in my DNA to be transformed.

I choose being ___________________.

I choose feeling ____________________. I am _____________________________.

It is done!  It is finished; it is mine by the resurrection of Jesus!

Thank you, Holy Spirit for the grace to live in the fullness of my identity as a child of God and a new creation in Messiah.

I give You thanks, God my Healer, Who is good and only good.  You are my God, my strength, my hope, and my salvation!
